Surviving the Dark! Placida Clou Has the Answer

It is never pleasant when the toilet lights unexpectedly go out again! You are in a public cubicle, and suddenly it is dark. Great – where is the toilet paper? Hopefully someone will arrive soon so that the badly positioned sensor finally switches the lights back on. I want to get out of here!

With Placida Clou and its built-in PIR sensor, things do not have to get that far. Its selectable orientation lighting keeps you from sitting in the dark between detected movements.

The clever part: orientation instead of darkness

In the dark, even reaching for the paper becomes a challenge.

Placida Clou has a built-in motion detector with selectable orientation lighting. Instead of switching off completely, the luminaire reduces its output to the chosen residual light level of 10 to 25%. The run-on time can be set from 1 minute to 24 hours of continuous operation.

This keeps you oriented until the next movement is detected and the luminaire returns to full output. It adds comfort especially in places where people may barely move for a while – such as a toilet cubicle.

System efficiency: light when it is needed

If the room has a window and the incoming daylight exceeds the set threshold, the luminaire automatically switches off the orientation light too. That avoids generating light when there is enough daylight available.

In many public areas, the lights stay on permanently. Even where energy-efficient LED luminaires are already installed, sensor control based on actual use offers further savings potential. This type of control can save up to 70% additional electricity. Actual savings depend on use and settings. Residual lighting combines that potential with orientation and a reassuring sense of safety.

OneFitAll: plenty of options, your choice

As a OneFitAll product, Placida Clou offers selectable light colour, from pleasant warm white to daylight white. This lets you adapt the lighting effect to the room.

The required luminous flux can also be selected in three steps using a switch. Together, light colour and luminous flux give you the flexibility to match the lighting to the requirements on site.

IP54: ready for a range of applications

With its IP54 rating, Placida Clou is protected against dust ingress and splashing water. It can be used in bathrooms, shower areas, garages, basements and washhouses at campsites.

In shared spaces in particular, orientation lighting combined with full output when movement is detected is useful: the room stays visible while the light responds to actual use. The following images illustrate these kinds of spaces.

Light in shared spaces

Whether you spend only a short time in the room or stand still for a while, a selectable residual light level maintains orientation between detected movements. A washroom illustrates this benefit particularly well: lighting comfort without permanent full output.

Thoughtful installation

The adjustable mounting clips can easily be adapted to different ceiling cut-outs. This is practical when replacing existing luminaires where the cut-out is already fixed.

Provision has also been made for through-wiring: no additional junction boxes or clip connectors are needed for it. Placida Clou combines flexible settings with thoughtful installation.

Placida: choose the right version

The Placida range is available in different sizes and output classes, with and without a built-in infrared motion detector. It serves as a replacement for recessed and surface-mounted luminaires using halogen, discharge or compact fluorescent lamps (CFL). The sensor and orientation lighting functions described here apply to the version with an integrated PIR sensor.

More performance for your money: Placida Clou combines clever functions and efficiency with affordable purchase costs. For you, that means adjustable lighting, practical installation and orientation when it is needed.
